Join us on the beautiful Klamath River for a day of easy rafting and kayaking in support of the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center

Warm waters, superb mountain scenery, abundant wildlife combined with a leisurely pace all add to an inspiring adventure. Local wildlife biologist Julian Colescott will share his knowledge of the region's geology and wildlife and the need to maintain healthy ecosystems.


A delectable assortment of fresh organic fruit and chocolate delights will be available, graciously donated by Dagoba and Endangered Species Chocolate companies and Hunters Orchard who join the Ecology Center in promoting sustainable farming.

This trip is perfect for first timers and seasoned river lovers alike. Appropriate for kids 4 and older.

The Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the outstanding natural environment and cultural values of Mt Shasta, one of the sacred mountains of the world, and of its surrounding bioregion, recognizing this region is of great importance locally, nationally and internationally in providing pure waters to the Sacramento Valley, rich biodiversity, numerous pristine natural sanctuaries and sacred areas of high significance to Native American cultures near and far.

Trip Information
The River
The Klamath is California's second largest river. It is part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers system. The river was named after a tribe of Modoc Indians and "Klamath" means "swiftness" in the Chinook language.
The unique combination of moderate rapids, warm summer waters, superb scenery, abundant wildlife and easy camping makes the Klamath a popular family destination. This run, starting at the "Tree of Heaven" campground is perfect for beginning rafters and kayakers or those seeking solitude and a easy, relaxing day in the sun.

Meeting time and place
We will meet the morning of our trip at 9:30 AM at "Tree of Heaven" campground. We get off the river around 4 PM. Carpools will leave at 8 AM from the Ecology Center's new office at 418 S Mt shasta Blvd. Prior reservations must be made

Traveling North on I-5, take the third Yreka exit, turn left under the freeway; at the stop sign, turn right onto Hwy 263. When you come to Hwy 96, turn left. Tree of Heaven is 4 miles down the road, the first campground on your left.
Traveling South, Hwy 96 is about 15 miles below the Oregon border, about 5 miles west of I-5.
Driving time from Mt. Shasta, 1 hour - Redding, 2 1/4 hours - Ashland, 30 minutes
There are airports in Medford OR and Redding CA, with rental cars available.

Safety
Your safety and comfort are our utmost concern. Our guides are mature, skilled professionals, certified in first aid and CPR. All trips are equipped with first aid kits and river rescue equipment. Safety procedures will be explained in detail prior to and during the trip. Because of the inherent risks involved with any outdoor activity, we are required to have you sign an acknowledgment of risk and release of liability before your trip.

Equipment
We supply the finest river equipment, including wetsuits and paddle jackets (when needed), top-of-the-line Coast Guard approved life jackets and helmets.

Inflatable kayaks
Our self-bailing inflatable kayaks are one-person rafts, very stable, easy to paddle and immense fun. At safe water levels, we bring a few to share on our class II and III runs. You may have exclusive use of a kayak for $10.

Bring lunch. We will provide fresh drinking water.

Tipping
If you feel your guide did an outstanding job, a tip is a great way to show your appreciation.

Souvenirs
River Dancers T-shirts and hats are nice mementos of your adventure. Ask your guides at the end of your trip.

What to Bring
On the river
- Swimsuits and/or shorts

- Tennis shoes, river sandals or river booties
- Light weight polypropylene or capilene top
- Lightweight rain gear
- Sun hat
- Sunglasses with straps
- Sunscreen and lip balm

Bring lunch. We will provide fresh drinking water.
