SPECIAL TRIPS

Owyhee

OWYHEE

Class III - April-May

The Owyhee river flows from its headwaters in northern Nevada to the Snake river on the Oregon-Idaho border. It is one of the most remote, isolated rivers in the U.S. and one that few people visit. Our journey will take us from the tiny hamlet of Rome in southeastern Oregon to the Owyhee Reservoir.

KAYAK The Owyhee river canyon has been compared to Bryce or Zion National Parks for its colorful geology and unforgettable beauty. The river cuts a dramatic course through a variety of spectacular desert scenery: badlands, sage brush valleys and hills, narrow gorges and painted canyons. The wildlife is outstanding: eagles, coyote, bighorn sheep, antelope, herds of wild horses...Native Americans lived here a long time ago. Still intact are some of their rock carvings. Abandoned ranches bear testimony of a more recent past.

We will camp on sandy beaches, hike fascinating side canyons...soak in hot springs right on river's edge.

This is a true wilderness adventure that will challenge your senses and rejuvenate your spirit.

GUIDE SCHOOL

Class III - April-May

Whitewater guide school is designed to acquaint and train private boaters and potential professional river guides in the organization, safety, wisdom and skills necessary for a successful river journey.

We will cover the basics of the river experience; equipment use, maintenance and repair, boat rigging and knot tying, the reading of water, trip logistics, outdoor care procedures, whitewater emergency and rescue techniques and the swimming of rapids. Adventure, learning, and effort will add up to three outstanding days.

"It was so great...I felt like a man!"
